Malachi Larrabee-Garza currently serves as Director of the Community Justice Network for Youth at the W. Haywood Burns Institute.

Before coming to the BI Malachi spent 5 years at the School of Unity and Liberation (S.O.U.L.) as the Advanced Political Education Director. Malachi co-founded the Brown Boi Project in 2006 and currently sits as Board Chair of Brown Boi Project Board of Directors.

Additional board appointments include National Strategist on the Board of Directors of Southerners On New Ground and board member of S.O.U.L. Malachi sits on the Advisory Committee of New Orleans, L.A. based BreakOUT!. Malachi is a 2008 KopKind Fellow.

Malachi proudly brings over 15 years of community organizing and popular education experience to the W. Haywood Burns Institute and honored to help build a movement strong enough to Stop the Rail to Jail.

At the Burns Institute, Katina serves as CJNY Western Regional Manager with a focus on training and curriculum development, responding to the needs of members currently in California, Arizona, Washington, New Mexico and Texas. Before joining the CJNY staff, Katina worked in education, youth development and as an advocate for indigenous peoples’ rights. She also provides consultation on best practices for community engagement within contracted juvenile probation sites across California. Katina is particularly interested in trauma and how it manifests in juvenile justice disparities. She has been working intimately with Native communities impacted by the system to develop strategies for populations facing the most difficult challenges. Katina holds a BA from UC Berkeley and has lived in the Bay Area since 2003.

Tracy Benson, Program Manager

Tracy Benson comes to CJNY from the Midwest with over 14 years of organizing experience. She started her work fighting to break down barriers to higher education for students of color, mobilizing students to go after state and federal budgets and racial profiling legislation. After being a higher education lobbyist, she started working with Southeast Asian and African American teens in her neighborhood, a community plagued by over-policing, racial profiling, surveillance, and excessive violence from law enforcement. Over the next ten years, she organized with youth of color to create a local "Stop the Rail to Jail" movement in Wisconsin, a state that leads the nation in disproportionately locking down youth of color. She worked directly with system involved youth of color to address school policing, immigration/deportation issues, and racial and ethnic disparities in the local juvenile justice system.  Tracy also served as a CJNY Advisory Council member for eight years before coming onto staff at CJNY.

Roselyn Berry is now a proud member of the Community Justice Network for Youth staff. A lifelong social justice activist, writer and spoken word artist, Roselyn came from Reflect and Strengthen, a grassroots collective based in Boston, MA called Reflect and Strengthen (R&S). 
R&S is a grassroots collective of young, working class women from the urban neighborhoods of Boston who employ a holistic approach to organizing and creating personal and social transformation. Reflect and Strengthens’ program focuses on political education, healing from trauma, creative expression, community building and campaign work to end racial disparity in the juvenile justice system.
Roselyn, with 7 other young women, founded Reflect and Strengthen in 2001.
For 3 years she was a committed member of R&S until she transitioned into a staff position at the age of 19. For 8 years Roselyn co-ran R&S, with a capacity of 32 members and several different community based programs. In 2011 Roselyn transitioned out of her role with R&S to advance her career in organizing work and so that youth within R&S can grow to become leaders of the organization. 
The Burns Institute and CJNY support Reflect & Strengthen in reducing racial disparity in the juvenile justice system and have for the past 6 years. Roselyn hopes to broaden her experience and nurture the movement in new and incredible ways through her role at CJNY. Roselyn now hopes to pay it forward to other CJNY members who are seeking the same support and guidance.
Roselyn graduated from high school as class president of the National Honor Society with a 3.8 GPA. She is now majoring in anthropology/sociology/psychology at Massachusetts Bay College. In 2009 she received a BEST Initiative Youthie Award in 2009. Roselyn is proficient in leadership development, circle practice, power analysis, fundraising and gender specific programming.
