Ali International (CA) - Provides personal and professional training and consulting to nonprofits for the purpose of further developing community-based programs for people of color. Arab American Action Network (IL) - A nonprofit, grassroots, community-based organization working to improve the social, economic and political conditions of Arab immigrants and Arab Americans in the Chicago metropolitan area. Asian/Pacific Islander Youth Promoting Advocacy & Leadership (CA) - A grassroots community youth organization that works towards the political, social, cultural, and economic empowerment of the A.P.I. community. Boston-area Youth Organizing Project (MA) - A youth-led, adult-supported organization that works for social change and justice in the Boston area. Bronx Connect - Urban Youth Alliance (NY) - Urban Youth Alliance trains young people for leadership and provides Alternative to Incarceration services for Bronx youth ages 12-18. Center for Community Alternatives (NY) - Serves people in trouble: youth at risk; families in crisis; people struggling to address drug and alcohol problems and HIV and AIDS; and people who have been involved in the criminal justice system who are seeking community reintegration and productive lives. Center for Community Learning and Development (CA) - Based out of Springfield Community College in San Diego and was established to enhance communities through improving the quality of human service delivery and through community-based partnership and development that leads toward social and economic justice. Community TV Network (IL) - TV production training of cable show for at-risk youth. Focuses on youth empowerment and highlights juvenile justice issues. CONTROL-Elementz-Hip Hop Youth Arts Center (OH) - A safe space, an empowering space, and a space for development. Correctional Association (NY) - Through advocacy, public education, and developing and promoting workable alternative proposals, the Correctional Association seeks to create a more fair, efficient and humane criminal justice system and a more safe and just society. Detroit Summer (MI) - An at-risk youth high school program designed to meet the needs of students who are not currently succeeding in their conventional high school, attending sporadically or may be in danger of leaving school prior to graduation. DRUM - Desis Rising Up and Moving (NY) - Founded to build power of South Asian low wage immigrant workers, families fighting deportation, and youth in New York City. Organizes through political education and membership led action for immigrant rights, racial, economic, and social justice. East Baltimore Youth and Family Services (MD) - A private company that offers individual/family services services-misc. East Bay Asian Youth Center (CA) - Their mission is to inspire and empower young people to become life-builders of a just and caring multi-cultural society. They provide counseling, support, advocacy, and mentoring to elementary, middle and high school students. Ella Baker Center for Human Rights (CA) - Documents, exposes and challenges human rights abuses within the U.S. criminal justice system. Combines policy reform, media advocacy, public education, grass-root organizing, direct-action mobilizing, cultural activism, new technology and legal service. Ella J. Baker House (MA) - A nonprofit, community-based organization that provides direct services to high-risk youth and their families by working and living "in the trenches" in Dorchester's Four Corners neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. They combine a settlement-house-style community youth center with direct outreach. They help at-risk youth avoid violence, achieve literacy, and access jobs. Esperanza/Hope (NY) - Alternative to placement program developed and operated by Vera, in partnership with the ew York City Department of Probation and other city agencies, for youth who have been found guilty of a nonviolent offenses and who would be sent to juvenile detention centers upstate. Instead, participants remain in their homes and with their families during their four to six months in the program. Exodus Transitional Community (NY) - A transitional community that assists recently released men and women from their incarceration to the "free world." Families and Friends of Louisiana's Incarcerated Children (FFLIC) (LA) - FFLIC is a parent organizing and advocacy group working on juvenile prison reform. Fearless Leading By Youth (DC) First Defense Legal Aid (IL) - Provides 24-hour legal representation for persons detained at Chicago police stations. They also provide legal education workshops and community advocacy. Girls Inc. (NY) - Their goal is to enrich the lives of NYC girls ages 6-18 through partnerships and direct service programs. They also provide training and technical assistance for community-based organizations. Highlander Center (TN) - Highlander serves as a catalyst for grassroots organizing and movement building in Appalachia and the South. Homies Organizing the Mission to Empower Youth (CA) - HOMEY seeks to further the work of social justice, youth-led organizing and continue the political-education and violence-prevention services they offer low-income, Latino youth in San Francisco's Mission District and city-wide. Homies Unidos (Los Angeles, CA) - A nonprofit that works with and assist at-risk youth. Institute for Juvenile Reform & Advocacy (NY) Justice for DC Youth (DC) - A diverse, intergenerational group that advocates for a fair and more effective juvenile system in the District. We are working to shift the city's priorities from incarceration to education. Juvenile and Education Training/American Resource Technicians (LA) Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana (LA) - Nonprofit statewide law and advocacy center dedicated to juvenile reform in New Orleans. Kaleidoscope (IL) - They work with the most difficult to serve youth in the system with no decline or punitive discharge and they share best practices with others. La Plazita Institute (NM) Legal Services for Prisoners with Children/All of Us or None (CA) - A national organizing initiative started by formerly-incarcerated people to fight against discrimination faced after release and to fight for the human rights of prisoners. Maryland Juvenile Justice Coalition (MD) - An organization that advocates for system reform and the rights of juveniles in Maryland. MECCA-Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (TX) - Community-based nonprofit whose mission is to promote the healthy social, cultural, and academic development of at-risk, inner-city youth through education in the arts. Milestone Adolescent Community Services (WA) - Serves the greater Seattle area BY providing free and low cost counseling to young people and their families as well as assisting social services, probation and schools with finding alternative community placements and programming for young people who need services or are court-involved. Multicultural Youth Project (IL) - A collaboration of youth agencies that nurture empowered youth who embrace and act upon their potential to transform their lives and their communities. "N" The Classroom (CA) - An after school program that provides courses to non-violent students, females, and/or detained students by focusing on issues faced by urban communities. New Orleans Parents Organizing Network (LA) - Supports parents to organize for excellent public schools. Their vision is of a healthy New Orleans in which every parent and every child has access to an excellent public school in their community. No Doubt, Inc (NY) - Develops youth, instills life skills, leadership and social responsibility emphasizing the completion of school to improve their overall quality of life. Office of Restorative Justice/Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CA) - Provides pastoral care for the incarcerated, their families and victims while seeking to affect changes in public policy regarding incarceration. Employs education and outreach as they advocate for a transformation in our current criminal justice system and those impacted by it. Seeks to energize the Church to respond to Jesus' invitation to "walk with the prisoner." OMNI Youth Services (IL) - Provides counseling, services and programming needs for children and parents who may have no where else to turn. One Fam (CA) - A hip-hop based organiation that offers young adults the opportunity to explore creativity. One Hood (PA) - One Hood was created to promote unity among young men, to strengthen and support each individual members programs and to promote peace in local Pittsburgh. Oregon Social Learning Center (OR) - A collaborative, multidisciplinary center dedicated to increasing the scientific understanding of social and psychological processes related to healthy development and family functioning. Pacific News Service/Beat Within (CA) - A literary journal that provides incarcerated youth with consistent opportunity to share their ideas and life experiences in a safe space that encourages literacy, self-expression, some critical thinking skills, and healthy, supportive relationships with adults and their community. Parents Who Care Coalition (SD) - Originated in July of 1999 after the death of a 14 year old girl in a juvenile correctional facility in South Dakota.Our coalition helps troubled youths and their parents. Peace-a-holics (DC) - Provides communities with wide array of services and programs with complete prevention and intervention services for at risk-youth and their families in the Washington, DC area. PB&J Family Services, Inc., (NM) - Operates Peanut Butter & Jelly Therapeutic Preschool and other parenting programs focused on child abuse and neglect prevention and family preservation. Pico Youth and Family Center (CA) - Provides the leadership and advocacy skills to disenfranchised youth and their families that are necessary to strengthen and sustain the community in which they live. The center also promotes unity, peace and social justice by requiring cooperation and advancing educational and economic opportunity. People Organized in Defense of Earth and her Resources (TX) - PODER's mission is to redefine environment issues as social and economic justice issues, and collectively set an own agenda to address these concerns as basic human rights. Power U Center for Social Change (FL) - A grassroots organization based in Miami, Florida; that fights for land, people, community; organizers for justice in our schools and communities; and supports the struggle of social, environmental, and economic justice. Project South (GA) - A community-based membership organization that develops and conducts popular political and economic education and action research for organizing and liberation. San Francisco Youth Commission (CA) - A diverse group of young people from San Francisco between the ages of 12-23. Commissioners are appointed by members of the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor for a one year term. Sankofa Safe Child Initiative Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (IL) - To provide public education, policy advocacy, training and technical assistance on issues related to the health and well being of adolescents. Self Enhancement Incorporated (OR) - One of the nation's most comprehensive and successful youth development organizations. 90% of students overcome significant barriers to success (poverty, family substance abuse, gang involvement, absent parents, low academic achievement, etc.) to become positive, contributing citizens. SHAPE Self Help for African People through Education Community Center (TX) - One of the most visible and involved community centers in Houston’s African-American community and the Houston community as a whole, S.H.A.P.E. has led the way toward justice, equal opportunity, and institution building in the city, state, nation and world. Skrappy’s/Tuscon Youth Center (AZ) - Skrappy's offers job and drug counseling, classes and emergency clothing, blankets and shelter. Since 2001 it has operated under the umbrella of Our Family Services (formally known as Out Town Family Center), a social service provider. Skrappy's is a youth center that last year provided services to approximately 16,000 teenagers. Southern Echo (MS) - A leadership development, education and training organization working to develop effective accountable grassroots leadership in the African-American communities in rural Mississippi and the surrounding region through comprehensive training and technical assistance programs. Southwest Key Programs (in TX, CA, GA, NY, WI, LA) - is a private non-profit residential agency that was established as an alternative to institutionalization. They provide an operation of innovative programming for troubled youth and their families. SpiritHouse (NC) - A North Carolina based organizing collective working to support the transformation and empowerment of communities most affected by racism, poverty, gender discrimination and the school to prison pipeline through grassroots programs, cultural arts, and community collaborations. Teen Build Up/Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center (WI) - The Mission of the Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center is to provide programs, services and access to resources that promote personal growth and community well-being, in response to neighborhood needs. Texas Families of Incarcerated Youth (TX) - A network comprised of family members of youth that are currently or formerly incarcerated in TYC. TFIY's mission is to offer support and information to families, and advocate as a unified voice for systemic change for families of incarcerated youth. The City School (MA) - A vibrant and unique youth organization in Boston that brings together teenagers from Boston's diverse neighborhoods and outlying communities in programs that combine creative education and critical thinking about social justice issues with hands-on leadership, learning, reflection and action. Tunica Teens In Action (MS) - A youth leadership development component of Concerned Citizens For A Better Tunica County (FABTC), Inc. TTA actively seeks more young people to get involved in community work. They provide and obtain specialized leadership development training that will produce the next generation of leaders. TTA develops culturally appropriate community events to share history and struggle. Urban Leadership Institute (MD) - A social enterprise based in Baltimore that focuses on leadership development by providing management, consultation services, program development, research and market analysis. Urban Underground (WI) - Provides effective and age appropriate programs, strategic partnerships, and youth-led civic engagement campaigns in the areas of health, education, public safety, and community justice. Their programs establish key pipelines for youth leadership, help groups broaden their definitions of diversity and inclusion, and create educational models relevant to today's youth. Urban Youth Alliance/Bronx Connect (NY) - A faith-based, community-based alternative-to incarceration youth program focused around mentoring services. The mission is to connect Bronx court-involved youth, ages 12-18, with positive resources found in the local Bronx community, through mentoring relationships that prevent recidivism and address youth-initiated goals in the areas of education and employment. Vera Institute of Justice (NY) - Their youth justice program supports public officials who are engaged in reforms related to juvenile justice and child welfare. Voices Unbroken (NY) - Coordinates writing workshops and trainings in "non-traditional" settings i.e. group homes, prisons, homeless shelters, living rooms etc. and nurtures workshop participants to become workshop facilitators. Westside Association for Community Action (IL) - A broad based multi-service community based network consisting of 35 neighborhood groups and organizations, and 135 individuals. We serve the following communities in Chicago. YO! The Movement (MN) - A nonprofit that focuses on youth organizing through hosting and implementing safe events, programs, and happenings for youth and young adults in Minnesota. Youth Alive (CA) - Provides one-on-one case management and wrap-around services to youth involved in violence by influencing their interaction with positive community role models. Youth Justice Coalition (CA) - A youth-led movement to challenge race, gender and class inequality in the Los Angeles County juvenile injustice system. Their goal is to tear down a system that has ensured the massive lock-up of people of color, widespread police brutality and corruption, vast disregard for youth and communities’ Constitutional and human rights, and the build-up of the world’s largest prison system. Youth Making a Change/Coleman Advocates for Youth (CA) - Has a pioneering hybrid model of policy advocacy and grassroots organizing, with the leadership development of young people and parents at the center. Their recent strategic plan clarified that while they seek to improve the lives of all children, their constituency is low to moderate income families in San Francisco, the majority of whom are families of color. Youth Struggling for Survival (IL) - A youth empowerment organization enlightening and awakening the consciousness of all people by guiding them back to the ONE...their inner universe. Youth As Resources/Chicago Area Project (IL) - A program that has succeeded in reaching youth and adults where many programs have not. Rather than adults writing prescriptions for youth, YAR asks youth to shape their own roles in the community. Youth Rights Media (CT) - A New Haven-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth to know, protect and advance their rights. YRM builds youth power and leadership by engaging young people in video media production and community organizing, equipping them with tools, skills, and strategies for affecting change within themselves and their communities. |
