What We Do
Regional Host
The CJNY Regional Host would be an organization that would be
host to a person (CJNY Field Coordinator/local host) who is in contact with the
staff of CJNY. The host organization must be able to provide meeting space and
some resources to support the CJNY organizing in that region. The local host
person would focus on connecting the local CJNY organizations, whether for
technical assistance or to take action against a negative policy effecting
youth of color. The Regional Host would provide an office space for this
person to use and support their administrative efforts regarding any CJNY
functions. back to top of page
Youth Think Tank
The CJNY Youth Think Tank is an effort to pull together:
young people who care deeply about the issues of juvenile justice, established
scholars who have written publications about juvenile justice issues, as well
as youth advocates and organizers from all areas of this work; and have them
all do some focused research then assemble them for two day meeting to deeply
discuss a specific issue and develop some strategies and/or policy initiatives
to address the injustice of the juvenile system. The CJNY National Office will
take the lead on organizing this strategic planning and raising the funds to
support this effort. back to top of page
Peer-To-Peer Technical Assistance
Peer-To-Peer Technical Assistance will
become a program in which CJNY members are both the primary providers and
recipients of service. We aim to connect peer organizations, one who is known
to have a particular expertise in a given area of service, organizing,
fundraising, etc. and the other who is need of some help in that area. To
accomplish this we will rely on everything from one on one conversations and
visits, to focused meetings where we strategically bring people together from
all over the country to discuss a specific issues i.e. transitioning from a
program that focuses specifically on providing direct services to a program
that also a promotes and trains youth in the fine art of organizing. The CJNY
will need a Technical Assistance Manager to really devote time and energy
toward a comprehensive National, Regional, and local TA program. The CJNY
National Office is responsible for raising the funds to support this
initiative. back to top of page
Speakers' Bureau
The CJNY speaker's bureau will consist of various CJNY members
that have self identified themselves as potential speakers for the network,
whether it be for a keynote address, simply to put on a small workshop or to
verbally challenge the system by confronting policy makers and other public
officials. The CJNY staff will work to promote the speakers bureau to various
organizations that will be hosting conferences over the next year and half.
The goal of having more speakers who come from community based organizations
working with youth of color on the front lines, is to begin to comprehensively
inform the nation about the real issues as the people in the trenches see it.
The CJNY National Office will raise any resources needed to facilitate this. back to top of page
